GSB - Where Winners Play

 GAME OF THE WEEK

OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO...

We, along with a ton of college basketball teams around the country, will be glued to the TV on Sunday to see just where everyone's going to end up, who will take the top seeds, and who will play who when tournament action begins. The conference tournaments (Beginning Wednesday) will answer a lot of questions, but there are going to be some surprises when Sunday rolls around too.

Here are a few questions we can't wait to see answered, this week and beyond:

Q: What's up with Duke?

A: We have NO IDEA. Is J.J. Redick tanking? Until the last two weeks, he hadn't put up less that 50% from the field in two consecutive games all season. Now he's hit under 40% in four straight. J.J.'s a clutch player though, and we expect to see Duke in the Final Four, and at very least in the Elite Eight.

Q: Tyler Hansbrough? Who is this guy?!

A: Hansbrough, the freshman center for UNC, is the GUY TO WATCH this tournament. If North Carolina goes deep this season, it's going to be because they're riding his back all the way.

Q: J.J. Redick or Adam Morrison for Player of the Year??

A: We told you last week. We have no idea. Our vote? Both of them. Too close to call.

  HANSEL WEI
  HOW TO PLAY

This Week: Hansel Wei on Online Security. Read the whole article in Hansel's Zone at GoSportsBet.

If you’re even slightly worried about your online security, you’re certainly not alone. One of the greatest fears in this young century has to be identity theft or other circumstances of online fraud. I remember when I signed up for Ebay and reluctantly put in my credit card number for PayPal. I was almost certain that there were going to be dozens of “Hansels” running around using credit cards with my name and information on them in no time. Luckily no such thing happened. However, as a sports bettor, you owe it to yourself to be aware of what security measures a sportsbook has in place to protect you from such situations. Every sportsbook you even consider using should have a section devoted to Privacy or Security, explaining what they do to keep you and your information safe. (See the “Privacy” section on GoSportsbet.com.) The current industry encryption standard is the SSL Protocol, a 128-bit encryption that ensures both you and the sportsbook are authenticated during every transaction through encrypted algorithms. Make sure the sportsbook accepts some standard secure methods of payment. These include Visa, Mastercard, Bank Wire, Electronic Checks, Firepay, and Neteller. GoSportsBet shows they make security a top priority by accepting these and more. Here’s why you shouldn’t lose sleep over your credit card number being online: sportsbooks have a lot more to lose than you do. If someone has the technology to hack the SSL protocol (doubtful) and access your information, then they can access the same information for the sportsbook! Why drain your account when an entire sportsbook’s account is there for the taking? The sportsbooks trust their security, and so should you. In general though, it is a good policy to question these things and create contingency plans. I recommend opening a new bank account specifically for online transactions, including online shopping, sports wagering, or any other instance you need to give a credit card number online. Although I stress that it...

This Week: Red Dog

Red Dog is a true game of chance. Once an initial bet is placed the dealer lays out two cards. At this point, you have the choice to double the bet or stand. Your task is to draw a card whose value falls between the dealer's two cards. The payouts are higher depending on the numerical difference between the two exposed cards. The payouts are based on the following table:

Pay Outs Based on the Difference in Values of Exposed Cards

Possible Cards Payout
1 (e.g. 5,7) 5:1
2 (e.g. 5,8) 4:1
3 (e.g. 5,9) 2:1
4 to 11 1:1
Consecutive (e.g. J, Q) Push
Pair (e.g. 7,7) Push
Three of a Kind 11:1
Note: Aces are always high.

If the value of the third card falls outside the range of the first two, or is equal to one of the exposed cards, you lose. If the two exposed cards are consecutive, all bets are pushed back. If the two exposed cards are equal in value, you will not have the option to raise the bet. An additional card is automatically drawn. If the third card completes a "three of a kind", you receive an 11:1 payout! If you do not achieve a three of a kind your bet is pushed back.
