| GAME OF THE WEEK |
 |
ALL THE MARBLES
College kids around the nation are getting pumped up to see their team take the court this weekend in games that have HUGE implications for NCAA tournament berths and seedings.
A few questions we've got going into this week's matchups:
- Who will win the scoring title? Gonzaga's Adam Morrison leads the way at 28.8 pts per game, but Duke's J.J. Redick isn't far back, at 28.0. Will Redick make a push this weekend, or does Morrison have it in the bag?
- Who's in, who's out? There are a ton of teams on the bubble - and we've got lines on all their games this weekend!
#1 Duke hosts arch-rival #15 North Carolina on Saturday in one of the must-see games of the year. Both teams are going to look to make sure they are in good shape for the tournament, but it's always a little sweeter for these teams when they beat the other. Look for maximum intensity from both sides as they try to make a defining statement in the lead up to the first round.

| HOW TO PLAY |

This Week: Hansel Wei on Betting Basketball. Read the whole article in Hansel's Zone at GoSportsBet.
Like football, basketball is bet against a spread, with a 10% vig. It’s an easy
enough system to conceptualize, unlike runlines (baseball), pucklines (hockey), or any of
the other bizarre betting methods used in some sports. Unlike football, however, there are
no key numbers. While some analysts and some readers have suggested that four and five
are “key numbers,” these margins in fact have more to do with how the game is played in
the final minutes than any inherent likelihood that games will end with this point margin.
When a team’s lead is four or more, the losing team needs multiple possessions to tie the
game and as a result is more likely to foul in order to stop the clock. So, while the nature
of how football is scored leads to various “key numbers,” basketball does not have these
to account for.
In basketball, there is simply less luck involved. When making sports wagers (a
task with inherent risk involved) we as professional handicappers and you as someone
choosing who to bet on want there to be as little “luck” involved as possible, because the
more room for “luck,” the greater chance that something can go wrong in our
calculations!
Think of all the ways luck plays into football. There is the coin toss to start the
game, and particularly importantly, to start overtime. The ball itself is shaped in a way
that increases the chances of “bad bounces” and can be hard to catch or control. The
difference in conditions for games can quite literally be like night and day, rain or shine
(or snow?), or summer and winter. So your team looked pretty good one week, on a nice
indoor field. How can you have any confidence they’ll play the same way when it’s -10
out, it’s snowing, and it’s getting dark? Exactly..

This Week: Battle Royale
Battle Royale is a fun and simple game based on the children’s game War. Once the ante has been placed, you and the dealer each receive one card face-up. The higher card drawn wins the “battle” and if you win, you double your money. If your card is lower than the dealer's you lose your ante.
In the event of a tie, you can choose to surrender and lose your ante or to “Go to Battle”. The battle commences: you place a bet equal to your ante and each combatant receives an additional card. If you win, you receive both bets back and win the value of your original ante. You do not receive any extra winnings for the additional bet. If you are beaten, you lose both the original ante and the second bet. A big win is achieved when the second set of two cards also results in a tie. You then receive a 3:1 pay out on all the bets placed.

TriviaTime Answer:
A) In 1984, fresh out of the University of North Carolina, Michael Jordan led the United States to a Gold Medal in the Summer Olympics. In 1988, the Olympics did not let professionals compete, and thus, Jordan had to wait until 1992 to get his second gold, with the "Dream Team." By 1996, Jordan decided to pass the torch to the younger players and did not attend the Olympics in Atlanta.
