I, like many of you, watched Game 7 of the NLCS last night, and I’ve gotta say, I wasn’t expecting much with Jeff Suppan and Oliver Perez as the starters. Suppan and Perez?! I mean, come on. Honestly, though, I was impressed with both teams, and the pitchers certainly didn’t disappoint either, as it was a 1-1 game until the top of the 9th.
Speaking of surprises, how about Yadier Molina?? Again, not the guy I was picking to belt the game-winning home run. However, it shows that while star players are certainly a bonus, baseball’s a team game. You never know whether it’ll be your $10 million player or the 25th guy on your bench who will make the play that counts. Look at Endy Chavez’s catch (which is bound to become a YouTube favorite, by the way). Although the play didn’t end up making a difference, it energized the Mets and kept them in the ballgame though.
In the end though, it’s not going to matter. This Expert Columnist is predicting Detroit in 5. You heard it here first.
